Hufflepuff Head of House
Professor Myers teaches Herbology and is Head of Hufflepuff House at Hogwarts. He’s definitely one of the weirdest professors in the WHOLE school, ‘cause he likes to dance around in ponchos in the Great Hall and do other weird stuff like that. Also, there are LOADS of rumors that he’s a Dark wizard! I didn’t find any proof of that this term, though, so I talked to a few Hufflepuffs to see what the professor is really like outside of lessons. Mr. Nicholas Tate said that, “Paul cares more about plants than students.” Which is really BAD, but Miss Althea Kenning said that the professor was alright. Second year Derfael Ashburry-Hawthorne said that he doesn’t trust Professor Myers, BUT his Head of House was the only adult at Hogwarts to actually listen to Derf when he wanted to talk about the monster last term and stuff. Which is kind of cool and surprising. So I guess Professor Myers is doing an okay job at being Head of the awesome House of Hufflepuff after all.
Hufflepuff Prefects
Faithful and friendly with always advice to share, Henrietta Kramer - or Etta as most of us are lucky to call her - had much on her plate this term as she not only had the honor of doning the prefect badge to her robes but ALSO was selected as the female representative of Hufflepuff house to participate in IMPS against visiting school, Ilvermorny. Suppose this is just a little testament to just how much this particular cute as a pygmy puff gal embodies the Hufflepuff spirit! We were lucky enough to sit down with this high in demand Puffette to ask her a few questions about the term.
1. This was a BIG term for you. Like really REALLY big! What was it like being selected as a prefect AND an IMPS champion?
It was unexpected but fantastic. Being selected as a prefect is such an honour and I hope I’m making my house and Professor Myers extremely proud. As an IMPS champion, I’m thrilled that I possessed qualities that led to me being chosen. I definitely didn’t see it coming but I’m grateful for the opportunity.
2. Are you scared of plants too? I saw you screaming at twigs and stuff during tasks.
At twigs? Well, I'm not scared of plants in general because I do love Herbology. I guess I am a little scared of the Whomping Willow though, especially after the second task. I didn’t have that great an experience especially since one of the branches hit me pretty bad.
3. Knowing you were a prefect happened first, do you remember what THAT felt like getting the letter asking you to pick up the badge?
It was wonderful! I remember just staring at the letter for a very long time before showing it to my parents who were extremely proud of me. It was one of the most happiest days of my life, honestly.
4. Which one of Hufflepuff's house traits do you encompasses you the most and how did it help you as a prefect?
It’s a combination of patience, hard work and loyalty, I think. I think patience is a very important trait to have as a prefect, as a person of responsibility. But hard work has essentially helped me overall, I think. Especially when I had to balance my prefect duties, IMPS tasks and OWLs.. I don’t think I could have done it all without putting in that much effort.
5. What was it like hearing the Book of Merlin call out your name?
Scary. I honestly didn’t expect it but I’m glad it happened, glad that I got to be a part of such a prestigious competition even if I didn’t win. It helped me realise a few things about myself as cliché as that may sound.
6. Everyone was really REALLY upset after the first task. What is your opinion on your experience there?
I don’t even know how to describe it. It was literally the most terrifying situation I’ve ever been in. When you have to face a dementor on your very first task? I can't speak for others but I definitely wasn’t prepared.
7. What is something you learned about yourself from participating in the IMPS?
It mainly taught me to be calm even in the face of a critical situation. Panicking doesn’t help one to think logically, in my opinion. If I had taken the time to actually think, I probably could have done way better.
8. In 10 years are so, you know, when your face is on a chocolate frog card...what kind of description do you hope is on the back?
Interesting question. Ten years from now, let’s see. Uh.. well, I’d like to keep it simple – “Henrietta was considered to be a hard-working and ambitious young witch, currently working as an Auror in the ministry.” I find it difficult to say things about myself, you know?
9. IF you had to write a chocolate frog card description for your co-prefect, Henry, what would it say?
If I had to write a description for him right now, I would have it say – “Henry has all the qualities that makes him what he is today - a brilliant quidditch player, a great Head-Boy and the most amazing friend a person could ever ask for.”
10. What is one little nugget of advice you would give to your peers after everything you've experienced this term AND to yourself moving forward?
To be confident of who you are. I think confidence helps you to overcome your weaknesses and be brave enough to experience new things. Doesn’t matter if you’re good or bad at it as long as you give it a try.

Continuing in the legacy of prefects with really neat hair, so I have heard, is Henry Whittebrook. But there is loads more to this sixth year than just nice hair! Henry is exceptionally kind and can befriend just about anyone and is a super quidditch player who deserves to have his face on t-shirts, mugs, notebooks, and life sized cardboard poster cutouts! Despite being taken by the Monster last term (on his BIRTHDAY even!), this dutiful badger bounced back better than a rubber ball and became the non-roaring type of courage personified. Here is what he had to say when I sat down with him to ask about how his term went and to poke around in that inspiring brain of his.
1. I gotta admit, I was REALLY anxious about who was gonna take on the powers of the badge after Brian Woods because he was kinda one of my idols but then it was YOU and I was so RELIEVED because you are one of my idols too, you know? How did it feel when you were asked to become prefect?
I’m really one of your idols? Oh, that’s really cool… Um, when I was asked, there were some other things going on right then that I had my mind on so it really took a minute to wrap my head around it and was a bit of a surprise. But, you know, I do try my best to represent Hufflepuff well and be a good leader, so I was glad to have been chosen.
2. So last term...you know....THAT happened...did anything that happened help you prepare for what was needed as a prefect?
………. I really don’t want to talk about that.
3. Which one of Hufflepuff's house traits do you encompasses you the most and how did it help you as a prefect?
Probably dedication? I do try my best at whatever I set my mind to do and that includes being a good prefect.
4. Do you wish you had been selected for IMPS? Or were you relieved when the Book of Merlin didn't call out your name?
At first, yeah, I guess I was kind of hoping for it and was a little disappointed that I hadn’t been chosen. I mean, it sounded really exciting and what an honor it would be, right? But really, watching some of my friends who were competing, I realized how intense it would have been, and with everyone watching you, and….. well, let’s just say I had more than my share of danger and risk last term.
5. IF you had to write a chocolate frog card description for your co-prefect, Etta, what would it say?
Wow, good question. Etta’s pretty great, isn’t she? I’m lucky to have her as my co-prefect. Um, let’s see… I think it might say something like: Henrietta Kramer, Hufflepuff Prefect. Truly embodies the spirit of Helga Hufflepuff and represents the best traits of the house - welcoming, loyal, and a true friend to all.
6. So...I have it on good authority that there are hags polyjuiced as professors in the school and Dark wizards among them. Maybe even a werewolf. Thoughts?
What on earth are you talking about? I don’t think any are dark wizards and I’m certain that none of them are secretly hags. I guess a werewolf could be a possibility, but I don’t think so. That’s the first I’ve ever heard of that suspicion. I’d like to know what your “good authority” is though.
7. You're also on the U-17 quidditch team. What's THAT like? Are you BUMMED beyond belief that there is no quidditch at Hogwarts?
Bummed beyond belief is an understatement, but thankfully my teammates and I have our regular practices and scrimmages here. We do our own training. And yeah, playing for England’s U17 team has been pretty much the greatest experience of my life. This will be my last summer on the team though and I’m sure I’ll miss it.
8. Tell me about your broom!
I have a pretty amazing broom, actually. My parents bought me a top of the line model a few years ago when I was training and trying out for the U17 team.
9. So...I already made you a chocolate frog card with your face on it last term BUT let's pretend it's 10 years from now what kind of description do you hope is on the back on your OFFICIAL chocolate frog card?
Right, that was pretty awesome. Thanks for that, I still have it. Oh, I don’t know… hopefully it will say something about all my professional Quidditch accomplishments, my work with creatures, and speak about myself as a decent person, which is important too.
10. What is one little nugget of advice you would give to your peers after everything you've experienced this term AND to yourself moving forward?
I’d say keep an open mind, go with the flow because things usually have a way of working out how they’re supposed to, and be the best YOU you can be.
